In our opinion, The Sony BDP-N640 is one of the best blu-ray players we have used, especially considering the price. Other more expensive players may have slightly better specs, but are generally much more expensive. Compared to the Sony PS3 as a blu ray player, along with various other brands, not a lot beats this player. Its picture quality is noticeably better than others we have tried, and the extra features such as the internet connectivity and the easy to use interface, make this probably the best bank for the buck of most blu ray player on the market.

D Han Says, After installing and testing this Blu-Ray player i am very happy so far. I have it connected to a 47″ Samsung LCD HDTV with 1080p via a HDMI cable. The Setup wizard was easy it asks you basic information first time you power on the player. One of the first features that I tested was the Netflix streaming capability. With the Sony BDP-N460, I immediately see improved picture quality, without skipping or image blurriness that the laptop ive been using would do. Blu-ray picture quality is excellent, what’s surprising is the DVD upconvert. Wasn’t quite sure what to expect based on other reviews posted here, but I almost couldn’t tell the difference between a DVD and Blu-Ray disc! John Says, We recently upgraded to a Hdtv and figured why not get a blu-ray player. I picked the Bdp-n460 because of all its media streaming capabilities. After hooking it up to the internet, I was surprised at how easy setting it up on the network was and more impressed by all the choices. The first blu-ray looked noticeably better than a standard DVD, but it is hard to tell a big difference in our set up between 1080p and 1080i HD. And we’ve rented a few films from Amazon VOD and they worked without a hitch and looked just great in HD. That really increases the value and utility of a blu-ray/DVD player. Of the new model year ‘2009′ Blu Ray players, we own the LG BD370, Samsung BD-P1600, and a PS3. By far, the BD370 is the nicest for Blu Ray content. Loading is FAST and the drive is completely silent (this is not the case on the BD-P1600 by Samsung). Piano Black finish on the face is plastic, and looks good. Had a Samsung upconverting DVD player that worked extremely well with my Samsung HDTV. Was not really looking for a Blue-Ray player but I buy alot of stuff on Amazon and decided to look at Blue-Ray players to see if the prices had come down. Was surprised to see this LG Player at $214 and eligible for Amazon Prime. The kicker was the streaming Netflix option. I had been watching Netflix “Watch Instantly” titles on my HDTV through my laptop using a D-Sub cable and headphones connected to my laptop. The Samsung BD P1600 1080p Blu ray disc player is Samsung’s feature packed entry into the world of sub-$150 Blu-ray players at Amazon.com and, though it is priced in the budget segment, it performs at a much higher level. It is a very sleek and visually appealing device, and would look very much at home among a bunch of extremely high end audio/video equipment.
The BD-P1600 is BD-Live ready, which means it can take advantage of all of the features that come with BD-Live enabled Blu-rays such as downloadable content including trivia games, pictures, and additional subtitles. Connection to the Internet is established either through the on-board Ethernet port, or the optional Link Stick USB wireless adapter that can be plugged in to either of the Samsung’s two USB ports, which will allow the Samsung to download firmware updates that will further increase its functionality as future technology allows. This Blu-ray player makes further use of the Internet as well by allowing direct streaming of both Netflix, if you are a subscriber, and the Pandora music service. Like most higher end Blu-ray players, Samsung BD-P1600p can upconvert your old DVDs, drastically improving their appearance on your HDTV to near HD quality. As 1080p requires HDMI, this player also makes use of HDMI 1.3, the single cord solution that is almost universally superior to component cables. Those with high end audio equipment will enjoy the options of DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD which complete the home theater experience. Older connection formats, such as HDMI component, analog audio, and optical audio out are also supported.

I bought one of these to replace a PS3 because I hated that it looked like a wart in my setup, had a loud fan, and could not bitstream. Finally there is a small blu-ray standalone that is fast, has a great picture and can bitstream advanced audio. It looks great in the rack and the netflix/pandora features are a nice bonus.
