The Sony BDP-N640 Blu-Ray Disc Player is truly one of the best values in the blu-ray player market. There simply isn’t any other blu-ray player that can match its features offered in its price range. It features 1080p video output, which is standard for most blu-ray disc players. 1080P video gives breathtaking, crystal clear images that you simply can’t get with DVDs or high definition TV channels. You really have to see the wonder of 1080p in real life to appreciate it, and once you experience it, it’s hard to go back to standard definition.

The Sony BDP-N460 Blu-Ray Disc Player also features Sony’s patented BD live technology, which is not found on most players, and gives you access to online features that enrich the movie watching experience, such as trailers, games, and additional scenes. It also features Sony’s patented xross interface, which makes navigating the menus much smoother and makes it easier to access other entertainment such as music and pictures. The BDP-N640 also includes an ethernet port, which gives you access to the internet and lets you stream You Tube videos, access Netflix, Amazon Videos, Crackle, Ehow, Golf Link.com and many others because they keep adding content.

With The Sony BDP-N460 Blu-ray Disc Player there is no need to scrap your old Dvds because it will also upscale your standard Dvds to almost HD quality. It plays movies at 24 frames per second, which is the rate which film makers intend them to be viewed, which gives a theater-like feel. The BDP-N460 also boots up in about six seconds, which is much faster than competing players, and is a very convenient feature.

In our opinion, The Sony BDP-N640 is one of the best blu-ray players we have used, especially considering the price. Other more expensive players may have slightly better specs, but are generally much more expensive. Compared to the Sony PS3 as a blu ray player, along with various other brands, not a lot beats this player. Its picture quality is noticeably better than others we have tried, and the extra features such as the internet connectivity and the easy to use interface, make this probably the best bank for the buck of most blu ray player on the market.

Check out what some other owners of the Sony BDP-N460 Blu-Ray Player have to say:

D Han Says, After installing and testing this Blu-Ray player i am very happy so far. I have it connected to a 47″ Samsung LCD HDTV with 1080p via a HDMI cable. The Setup wizard was easy it asks you basic information first time you power on the player. One of the first features that I tested was the Netflix streaming capability. With the Sony BDP-N460, I immediately see improved picture quality, without skipping or image blurriness that the laptop ive been using would do. Blu-ray picture quality is excellent, what’s surprising is the DVD upconvert. Wasn’t quite sure what to expect based on other reviews posted here, but I almost couldn’t tell the difference between a DVD and Blu-Ray disc! The YouTube feature seems to work well too, and I cant wait to try out some of the other streaming content. This is an excellent product and highly recommended! John Says, We recently upgraded to a Hdtv and figured why not get a blu-ray player. I picked the Bdp-n460 because of all its media streaming capabilities. After hooking it up to the internet, I was surprised at how easy setting it up on the network was and more impressed by all the choices.  The first blu-ray looked noticeably better than a standard DVD, but it is hard to tell a big difference in our set up between 1080p and 1080i HD. And we’ve rented a few films from Amazon VOD and they worked without a hitch and looked just great in HD. That really increases the value and utility of a blu-ray/DVD player. This has been a great addition to our entertainment experience. This review has been paraphrased for size. Click here to read the full review

As an A/V tech I get asked this question almost every time we install a Blu-ray player.

The answer of course is Yes!  And not only will all Blu-ray players play those regular Dvds some will enhance the picture by doing what is called Dvd up-conversion.

Dvd up-conversion will basically take your standard Dvd disc and make it as close to a high definition image as it can possibly get. As a matter of fact on an Hdtv that is 32 inches or smaller you can barely tell a difference between a Blu-ray movie and a Dvd that is being up-converted. Now once you start going up in size like on nice 52 inch Lcd you can certainly tell the difference between the up-converted Dvd and the Blu-ray disc but the Dvd will still look a lot better than it did with your standard Dvd player.

Here are a few quality Blu-ray players that offer Dvd up-conversion:
